  • 1 Cup water
  • 4 Tablespoons cocoa
  • 2 Cups sugar
  • 2 Cups flour
  • 1/2 Teaspoon salt
  • 3 eggs
  • 1/2 Cup sour cream
  • 1 Teaspoon baking soda
  • FOR THE FROSTING
  • 8 Tablespoons butter (one stick)
  • 4 Tablespoons cocoa
  • 6 Tablespoons milk
  • 1 Pound powdered sugar
  • 1 Teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 Cup chopped walnuts

Instructions

  1. FOR CAKE: Preheat oven to 400 degrees, grease a large cookie sheet with sides. In a saucepan, mix butter, water and cocoa, bring to a boil. Pour into large bowl. In a small bowl, mix sugar, flour, and salt. Gradually add dry mixture to chocolate mixture, mix well. Blending between additions, add 3 eggs, sour cream, and baking soda. Pour into well greased cookie sheet. Bake 20 minutes.
  2. FOR FROSTING: Make frosting approximately 15 minutes before cake is done. Cake should be frosted as soon as it is removed from oven. Melt 1 stick of butter in saucepan. Add cocoa and milk, heat until mixture just starts to bubble. Remove from heat. Gradually beat in powdered sugar and vanilla. When completely blended, add walnuts. Spread frosting on cake as soon as it is removed from oven.
